For details, view this PowerPoint Presentation Having the skills to survive in the 21st century requires a GED or high school diploma. Without one or the other, a person can expect to earn only half of the expected earnings of a graduate. The Adult Learning Center offers a flexible schedule and personalized instruction to help students successfully complete their GED. The Center offers evening hours to assist students who may work during the daytime. The Center offers students the opportunity to study at their own pace and on their own schedule. Stop by today and let our staff start you on your way to obtaining your GED. ADULT BASIC EDUCATION SERVICES The Center offers a full range of basic educational services to individuals 16 years of age and older who may need to improve reading, math or language skills. Adult basic skills training will be geared to your personal needs and learning style. Services are offered to help students pass pre-employment exams and to upgrade their workplace skills. Computers are available for students to offer a wide variety of learning opportunities. Reading programs are now computer-based and students can advance in these programs at their own pace. Families are a very important part of our Center. The Next Step Program is a family literacy-based program that assists families in achieving educational goals. The program partners with the Preschool Head Start Program to provide these services to families. The Next Step Program's core belief is that parents are a child's first and most important teacher. Families in the program work together during the week and on Family Nights to achieve family goals that will assist them in being successful in the educational and workplace settings. The Adult Learning Center partners with ADECCO Employment Services - located in Winchester and Georgetown, Ky. - to provide job assistance to students. Representatives from ADECCO are onsite at the Center at specified times to sign up applicants for job positions in the surrounding area. The Adult Learning Center has a Career/College Corner to assist students who are interested in pursuing postsecondary educational opportunities. Staff are available to assist students with college prep information, college entrance exams, and financial aid packets. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASSES The Adult Learning Center partners with the Bourbon County Schools Community Education program to offer ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to students and families in the community. Classes are held in both the Fall and Spring semesters to assist those who would like to improve their conversational English skills. Classes are held in the evening to accommodate students who may work during the daytime. Services are administered and funded by the Bourbon
