Audio downloads for iPods and MP3 music players are expected to be available soon.

  • Equitrekking
    http://www.equitrekking.com

Beyond the streaming video, the website also offers travel tips, a vacation guide, a monthly newsletter, expert advice and an online community for high-tech equestrians. Each hotel has an "exclusive insight" section where FSA notes what makes it a standout in the growing field of luxury hotels. All hotels are listed for free, so there's no bias in the choices. A major perk is FSA's guarantee that the traveler will be satisfied with the stay at any hotel booked on its site. If unhappy for any reason, FSA promises to work with the hotel to resolve the issue.

  • Kayak
    http://www.kayak.com

Searches hundreds of other websites in real time for the best travel deals available; lets the traveler look at a full range of airlines, hotels and car rental agencies quickly and efficiently based on the exact criteria selected. This means a better travel search. Results are laid out in an extremely user-friendly manner, and manipulating search results to zero-in on the optimal choice can be done by simply checking or un-checking boxes along the left side of the page.

  • Lonely Planet
    http://www.lonelyplanet.com/
Travel guidebooks, advice, information and inspiration.

  • Marriott Golf's "Rounds and Rooms"
    http://www.marriottgolf.com

Offers an online golf resort and tee time reservation system. The vacationing golfer can visit before hitting the links, and book a start time simultaneously with the hotel room. The system covers over 50 leading golf courses worldwide.

  • Orbitz
    http://www.orbitz.com

Long the go-to site for checking airfares, and for ample reason: it does such a good job of packing flight options into a comprehensive and clear display that nearly every other site imitates it. Just plug in departure and destination airports, and Orbitz will alert the traveler if a nearby airport has a cheaper fare. But Orbitz doesn't want the traveler just to check the fares, but to also buy the tickets. To that end, it has bulked up its airfare and hotel packages. Sometimes the packages have some annoying quirks, such as requiring a stop-over flight when non-stops are available. Orbitz also includes alerts that send departure information and hotel reviews to cell phones.

  • PlacesToStay
    http://www.placestostay.com

Offers a broad selection-distinctive hotels, inns and resorts worldwide, and features the largest portfolio of independent properties anywhere online. Search options allow the traveler to indicate personal preferences, such as price range, services and amenities. Color photos of guest rooms and exterior views are given along with detailed descriptions.

  • Quikbook
    http://www.quikbook.com

Offers unsold rooms at independent hotels at a bargain. Other sites sell priority placement to the top bidder. Quikbook never does. Users always see the best deals - and the travelers can sort them the way that makes the most sense. Its Hotel Profiles offer lots of details about hotels: lists of amenities; proximity to shopping, entertainment and airports; photos and maps; even comments submitted by Quikbook customers who have already stayed at the hotels.

  • Restaurant Guide
    http://www.foodandwine.com/restaurants

An online guide to 2,700-plus restaurants around the world, is available at FoodandWine.com and TravelandLeisure.com (just add /restaurants to the addresses). The Restaurant Guide can point the traveler to no fewer than four recommended (and reviewed) eating spots for a destination. Coverage is worldwide (with a current focus on Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States), and broken down into such categories as kid-friendly spots, best bites near sights, hotspots and best wine lists.

  • SearchParty
    http://www.searchparty.com

Offers comparisons of "total cost of stay" rather than just room rates (which often don't include taxes and booking fees) found on other online hotel booking websites. Much like SideStep and Kayak.com, SearchParty "spiders" its partners' web sites to gather hotel information each time a query is entered into the system. Its inventory already exceeds 40,000 U.S. hotels. In addition to the website, SearchParty also offers free downloadable software that enables online travel shoppers to compare hotel prices even if the site at which a search is run does not actively participate in SearchParty or other travel search engines.

  • SkyAuction
    http://www.skyauction.com

A fast-growing travel auction marketplace where the traveler can buy airline tickets, room nights, tours, cruises and all-inclusive vacations. The company negotiates special deals with leading airlines, hotels, resorts and cruises to offer amazing bargains. Anyone can bid with only a few mouse clicks. Most of the travel auctions open at $1 with no reserve. Like all travel sites, port charges, departure taxes and the like can add up. While SkyAuction does apply these charges on its offers, the charges are disclosed before the traveler confirms the bid.

  • Site59
    http://www.site59.com
Dedicated solely to last-minute travel. The traveler can book airfare and hotel packages anywhere from three hours to 14 days prior to departure. By buying up unsold seats and rooms, Site59 can sell them at a discount. The problem is that airlines and hotels have gotten pretty good at selling their own excess inventory, so Site59's deals often aren't so hot.

  • TabletHotels
    http://www.tablethotels.com

Specializes in high-end boutique hotels-ones with personality that obsess on the details. Each hotel is subjected to a rigorous review process. Each is anonymously visited by someone in the company's network of travel experts, and the experts' reports are reviewed. On each hotel page the company lists real-time customer ratings submitted only by TabletHotel customers who have actually stayed in the hotel in. The website claims that its customer service department is on par with the best concierge services, offering fast and professional help.

  • Thorn Tree
    http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com
Lonely Planet's bulletin board for travelers to exchange information. It offers an Accommodation Review section of 5000+ author reviews and recommended properties in over 125 destinations.

  • Travelocity
    http://www.travelocity.com/
A great site for finding inexpensive fares; membership is free, and signing up is easy. The traveler is offered daily specials, package vacations, airfare bargains, car rentals, hotel reservations, and a comprehensive destination guide. However, features that appear to be time- and money-savers are often frustrating to use. For example, if travel plans are flexible, Travelocity will show the dates that will get the cheapest fare, but the reviewer's attempts to book this trip failed to produce the lowest priced fare, saving no money but costing much patience. Travelocity also doesn't offer as many package deals as Expedia, but the traveler can book attractions and reserve a specific aircraft seat, with a booking fee of $5. Travelocity is also known for including taxes and fees in its price lists so there are no surprises at checkout.

  • Travelzoo
    http://www.travelzoo.com

Employs travel deal experts to research and test recommended deals before publishing. They also provide tips on when offers are available and where to find the best deals. Travelers don't book tickets on the site but click through to the travel company itself for that. There is no charge for the information or the company's newsletters. The company makes its money from the travel companies who pay Travelzoo to distribute the news about their latest offers. The hottest travel deals are handpicked and published every Wednesday in its Top 20 e-mail newsletter.

  • Tripbase
    http://www.tripbase.com
Vacation ideas, destination finder and more.

  • Google Maps
    http://maps.google.com

  • Mapquest
    http://www.mapquest.com

  • Mobissimo
    http://www.mobissimo.com
Search engine performs real-time queries on over 160 websites that travelers traditionally check manually (plus dozens of others that are often overlooked). In a very short time, Mobissimo returns the most comprehensive travel search results available on the web. It has the largest network of international suppliers. It's a good place to start if the traveler needs a flight that doesn't originate in the United States. One drawback is that some international partners do not accept U. S. credit cards.

  • SideStep.com
    http://www.sidestep.com

Searches airline websites and other travel sites, including some international travel sites to come up with its list of best fares. It has an online search tool, but more features are available if you download its small software utility (Windows only). These features allow you to compare results on a split screen with Expedia, Travelocity and others. An "Activities" feature allows travel planners to instantly search dozens of relevant sites to find and plan things to do while on vacation. As is the case with hotels and flights selected at SideStep, tickets for each activity can be purchased directly at the partner's web site. SideStep doesn't charge fees; it simply steers the traveler to the site where it found the fare.
