Assistance with
tax preparation
http://www.aarp.org/taxaide
Please remember that
library
staff members are NOT
qualified to answer any tax questions, including
which
form(s) to use for filing.
Use care in
deciding which
form you need printed
at the library, as you
will be
allowed only ONE free
tax form, then charged
15 cents per page
for
additional printed forms. Free income tax
preparation service for elderly and low income citizens is provided
annually by AARP TaxAide's trained volunteers (at a downtown location
this year, NOT at the library), by appointment only.
Call
(859) 987-5287 for details.
Please do NOT call
or visit the
library to make appointments or ask questions about tax preparation;
library staff members are not trained or able to help you with anything beyond printing
blank tax forms. The tax assistance provided AT the library in
years past is now handled as noted above.
PAPER TAX FORMS:
ABOUT
STATE INCOME TAX FORMS:
This year the Commonwealth
of Ky. Revenue Department is not providing state income tax forms to
libraries. Individuals may order forms from the Revenue Department or
print from
the Internet or pick them up at the Revenue Service
Center in Frankfort. In an attempt to serve library patrons this year,
the library will print necessary state forms from the Internet on a
limited basis (one form and only associated schedules per individual)
at no charge. Publications, instructions and additional copies of
forms and schedules may be printed from the Internet at the library at
the individual's expense (15 cents per page).
ABOUT
FEDERAL INCOME TAX FORMS:
On December 17, 2010, the President signed the Tax Relief,
Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of
2010. The printing and distribution of many forms were delayed
pending the approval of this legislation, including Form 1040,
Form 1040A, Instructions 1040, and Instructions 1040A, as well as
many others. Please understand that these forms were pre-ordered
months ago for distribution at the library; however, we may expect
delays in receiving these above referenced forms. The library will
have federal income tax forms, instructions, and the usual
publications for distribution as they arrive.
Also please be aware that the IRS announced recently that
they will no longer mail federal tax forms directly
to individuals. This is a significant change; it is to be
expected that many forms will need to be printed from the
Internet.
Limited quantities of
commonly used forms and instructions will be made available as they are
received - the distribution area is located in the High Street
lobby (inside the front stairwell).
In an effort to serve library patrons,
less common forms may be
printed from the Internet on a
limited basis (one form and only associated schedules per
individual) at no charge this year. Publications,
instructions, and additional copies of forms may be printed from the
Internet at the individual's expense (15 cents per page). If you need
help with printing: library staff will help you find and print a
specific form as time permits, but staff cannot advise on which
form you should use.
